Automotive
About
Automotive Technology has been a long standing program at Pennsauken High School.
The facility and curriculum were given substantial upgrades over the past few years in response to Pennsauken’s new investment and dedication to Career and Technical Education (CTE).
The automotive industry continues to evolve and the need for highly skilled automotive professionals is at the forefront of this new era of mobility. This program is designed to meet the ongoing demand for trained, certified Automotive Technicians.
Automotive Technology offers hands-on training to repair and maintain the mechanical and electrical systems on board today’s vehicles.
Our Automotive Technology program includes high-tech training in the following areas:
- Suspension and steering
- Brakes
- Electrical electronic systems
- Engine performance & engine repair
- Automatic transmission
- Transaxle, manual drivetrain and axles
- Heating and air conditioning.
Additionally, students are introduced to the workings of computer diagnostics as they relate to modernized transmission systems. These areas combine to give the students exposure to the entire field. Students will work on vehicles using state-of-the-art equipment in their performance of routine.

Baking
About
Pennsauken High School has partnered with the International Baking Company Puratos to learn about the techniques, math, and science of baking.
The Baking Program is designed to cover the basic skills for baking industry employment or continuing education. This includes the following areas of study:
- Kitchen safety
- Equipment usage
- Ingredients basic
- Baking mixing methods
- Bakers' math
- Food cost
- Menu planning
- Sanitation
Students will learn the industry standard production methods of cookie pies, decorated cakes, basic bread doughs, Artisan breads, upscale specialty desserts, frozen desserts, laminated doughs and breakfast pastries.
Students will earn the opportunity to earn a ServSafe certification in food safety.

The Pennsauken “Wood” Shop has been a long standing program of study. The facility and curriculum were given substantial upgrades over the past few years in response to Pennsauken’s new investment and dedication to career and technology education (CTE). Currently, the wood shop has become a comprehensive carpentry program that prepares students for immediate employment upon graduation.
This program is intended for students who are interested in becoming career carpenters. The Carpentry courses at Pennsauken High School are instructed in a facility classroom fully equipped with state of the art woodworking and construction equipment in a setting where safety is a primary concern.
In the Carpentry program, students become familiar with:
- Construction terminology
- Safety procedures
- Power and hand tools
- Building and framing
All courses are hands-on and practical in nature helping students learn proper safety and techniques necessary to build a long, prosperous and successful career.
Our Carpentry Program was a partnership with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). Students leave the program ready to enter apprenticeships with the UBC. At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to earn Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certifications.

Cosmetology
About
The cosmetology lab includes 24 individual work stations, barber chairs, hair dryers, sinks and manicure stations. This program is intended for students interested in becoming licensed cosmetologists. In the Cosmetology program, students learn the skills necessary to work as a licensed cosmetologist or barber.
The course includes both hands-on activities and traditional classroom work. Students learn proper cosmetology techniques necessary to build a long, prosperous and successful career. Sanitation, sterilization, and safety are emphasized. Students will also be introduced to salon management.
This program focuses upon preparing students to master the skills necessary for the state board certification test. At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to earn New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology - Cosmetologist/Hairstylist Licensure

Culinary Arts
About
The Culinary Arts program is a long established program of study at Pennsauken High School. The facility and curriculum were substantially upgraded in order to prepare students for immediate employment upon graduation. Pennsauken High School offers an extensive four year Culinary Arts program. The program focuses on nutrition and health, food safety and sanitation, and food preparation skills. Lessons includes making healthy food choices, safety in the laboratory, and the proper use and care of tools and equipment. Food laboratories give students an opportunity to develop skills in baking and preparing meals. This program prepares students to practice and reinforce workplace readiness skills needed for successful employment in the food service industry. Students are exposed to culinary businesses and colleges in an effort to broaden student opportunities. Culinary guests visit the class to provide presentations. Students take field trips to Puratos, Cathedral Kitchen, Atlantic Cape Community College, and other culinary institutions. At the end of program, students will have the opportunity to earn National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessment and to earn ServSafe certification.

Welding
About
The Pennsauken High School Welding Program was established November 2018. Students learn in a brand new 2000 square foot shop that features 25 individual work stations. This building of this state of the art shop shows the dedication for the non-college bound learner. The welding program is intended for students who are interested in pursuing careers as welders and iron workers. Students learn how to use a wide range of tools and techniques while learning the proper techniques and safety measures associated with welding. The goal of this program is to equip students with the skills necessary to enter the field as a Level 1 Iron Worker. The welding curriculum includes instruction regarding the shielded metal arc process, the gas metal arc process, the gas tungsten weld along with pipe welding and cast iron welding. Students also learn how to adjust voltage, amperage, electrode extension and gas flow rates. Courses emphasize rules, regulations, and procedures associated with all industry standards. Pennsauken has partnered with the American Welders Society (AWS) who hosts quarterly meetings at Pennsauken High School (PHS). The AWS is in the process of planning the Regional Welding Competition that will be held in the PHS welding shop in the Spring of 2021. This partnership is vital to the relevance and success of the Pennsauken Welding Program. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to earn the American Welding Society (AWS) and National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) certification.

Electrical
About
The Pennsauken High School Electrical program was established in September of 2018. The brand new electrical shop features 18 individual work stations. These stations contain electrical boxes for instruction. The program is intended for students interested in pursuing careers as electricians. Students learn the phases of proper wiring methods both in theory classes and through hands-on shop experience. Proper job safety will be taught and emphasized. Students are instructed in basic skills about installing, designing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems, devices, and equipment for commercial wiring. The students learn how to install receptacles, switches, lighting on commercial buildings. While working with the various circuits for a dwelling, the student learn to work safely around electricity and to use the proper tools for commercial wiring. The student are taught related math and formulas used on the trade. At the end of the program, students will leave ready to obtain a work apprenticeship in the field and continue their education in the electrical field. Students will have the opportunity to earn National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) certification.
Health Occupations
About
The Healthcare industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the realm of employment opportunities, as well as one of the top employers in Camden County. The overall health of New Jersey, both its people and economy, is clearly tied to the capabilities of this evolving profession. The Health Occupations program will help to prepare for a wide variety of career opportunities for our students.
The curriculum provides an overview of the different fields present in the healthcare sectors along with targeted courses on the human body, genetics, microbiology, medicine, public health, and various aspects of clinical research and emergency care.
The pathway includes rigorous courses including: Dynamics of Healthcare, Medical Terminology, Human Body Systems, and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Additionally, students will have the opportunity to earn dual credits through our partnership with Camden County College. At the end of the fourth year, students will be prepared to sit for their CCMA license with the National Healthcare Association (NHA). With a passing score, students will have access to entry level healthcare positions upon graduation from high school.

HVACR
About
The HVACR program at Pennsauken High School was established in September 2019. The brand new HVACR facility is equipped with heating, cooling, and cleaning indoor air tools as well as equipment for preserving food and other perishable products.
This course program provides students an opportunity to learn the trade through a combination of hands-on training and related classroom instruction. The curriculum encompasses the logistics of furnaces and air conditioners used in residences and businesses. Students learn about equipment used in retail, commercial, and industrial enterprises for the preservation and packaging of food and other perishables. Students learn how to use tools and machines to service HVAC equipment. Throughout the program students become adept at utilizing various hand tools and power tools. Topics covered include basic copper and plastic piping, carbon steel piping, and soldering and brazing. Safety procedures in the shop will be emphasized.
Students receive training in this course to obtain an EPA certification for safe and proper refrigerant usage. This program will also focus on preparing the students to master the skills necessary to pass the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam.

Air Force JROTC
About
Welcome to the Pennsauken High School Air Force JROTC page. The mission of the AFJROTC Program is to "develop citizens of character."
AFJROTC is not an extension of the USAF accessions program and cadets are never under any obligation to join any military service branch. AFJROTC is a Title 10 US Code mandated citizenship training program, which is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. The program achieves this through classroom education in air and space fundamentals, leadership principles and hands on learning opportunities in a team environment, it also incorporates a number of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities.

Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Bouchee

Chief Bouchee serves as the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for Pennsauken High School. Chief Bouchee was born in Livingston, Montana, on May 6, 1971. He entered the Air Force in June 1989. Throughout his 30 plus year military career, he has held a variety of leadership positions as a First Sergeant, Squadron Superintendent, Major Command Functional Manager, Career Field Functional Manager, and completing his career as the Cadet Wing Command Chief at the Unites States Air Force Academy. Additionally, Chief Bouchee has extensive deployments spanning the first Gulf War, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM AND OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Prior to assuming his current position, Chief Bouchee served as an Aerospace Science Instructor at Cherry Hill High School West.

Sergeant Bender serves as the Aerospace Science Instructor for Pennsauken High School. Sergeant Bender was born in Suffolk, Virginia, on January 10, 1971. She entered the Air Force in February 1992. Throughout her 23 plus year military career, she has held a variety of positions from a Master Instructor, Squadron Superintendent, and Wing Command Center Superintendent. Sergeant Bender retired on August 31, 2015, from Nellis Air Force Base Nevada. Additionally, she directly supported the Global War on Terror that included extensive deployments for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to assuming her current position, Sergeant Bender served as an Aerospace Science Instructor at Cherry Hill High School West and Northern Burlington County Regional High School.
